‘Planning for the Future’ series continues with insurance, senior services workshops

WINNSBORO — The Fairfield County Library is continuing its popular “Planning for the Future” community education series throughout October, offering residents expert guidance on insurance coverage and senior support at two upcoming evening workshops.

On Monday, Oct. 19, the library will host “Understanding Insurance,” led by guest speaker Mark Wyatt. Running from 6 to 7:30 p.m., the session is designed to help individuals and families make informed decisions about protecting their households and assets. Wyatt will discuss various types of coverage—including auto, home, life, and health insurance—as well as practical tips on what to evaluate in a policy, how to determine appropriate coverage levels, and strategies for protecting what matters most. Attendees will also have time to ask questions.

The series will continue the following week on Monday, Oct. 26, with a program highlighting the Fairfield County Council on Aging. Anne Shissias, the agency’s new executive director, will lead the session from 6 to 7:30 p.m., discussing the wide range of resources and support programs available to area seniors and their caregivers. Her presentation will provide an overview of the Council on Aging’s mission, outline how to navigate and access local services, explain program eligibility requirements, and conclude with an open question-and-answer period.

The upcoming workshops mark the latest installments in the library’s ongoing effort to equip Fairfield County residents with practical tools and professional advice for major life decisions. Previous sessions in the series have covered estate planning with Probate Judge Brad Caulder, property tax insights with County Auditor Anne Bass, pre-planning with funeral home directors from Nelson Funeral Home, Palmetto Funeral Home, and Pope Funeral Home, financial and tax preparation with Marilyn Butler, and Medicare and pharmacy care with Carrie Baker from Hawthorne Pharmacy.

Both programs are free and open to the community, and light refreshments will be provided. The sessions will take place at the main library, located at 300 W. Washington St. in Winnsboro.
